BRAKE MOTOR RANGE

AC & DC BRAKE MOTORS

Brook Crompton brake motors combine a robust three-phase squirrel-cage motor with a directly-coupled, spring-applied brake to provide rapid, secure stopping and positive load holding wherever safety and precise control are critical. The range covers IEC frame sizes 71-225 with AC and DC brake options, giving dependable performance in demanding industrial environments and frequent start/stop duties.

Brook Crompton three-phase brake motor with integral DC brake unit

Each brake motor is built on Brook Crompton’s proven W series platform, using high-strength housings, end-shields and bearings to withstand vibration, shock loading and arduous mounting arrangements. The integrated brake unit is spring-applied and electrically released, ensuring that the motor stops quickly and the load is held safely whenever power is removed, including under emergency stop or power-failure conditions. Typical duties include lifting, indexing, conveying and other applications where personnel protection, accurate positioning and high uptime are essential.

WHY SPECIFY BRAKE MOTORS

KEY BENEFITS OF BRAKE MOTORS

Fail-safe stopping and holding

Spring-applied, power-released brakes provide automatic stopping and positive holding when the supply is removed, delivering a fail-safe solution for lifting, vertical drives and safety-related duties.

Integrated, compact design

The brake is mounted directly on the motor's non-drive end, giving a compact package that simplifies installation compared with separate motor and brake arrangements and maintains correct alignment over the product's life.

High reliability in tough duties

Motors are designed in accordance with IEC/EN 60034 and use heavy-duty bearings, high-grade insulation and effective cooling to handle frequent starts, braking cycles and high inertia loads with long service intervals.

Flexible mounting options

B3, B5, B14 and B30 pad options are available as standard, with combination arrangements (B35, B34) also offered for maximum installation flexibility.

Easy maintenance and spares

Clear data on brake air-gap settings, torque values and duty limits is provided in the catalogue, and replacement coils, friction linings and mechanical parts are readily available to keep motors in service.

Proven standards compliance

Designed and tested in accordance with IEC/EN 60034 and the specific brake motor requirements set out in the Brook Crompton brake catalogue, giving confidence that performance, safety and documentation meet recognised international standards.
